Exercising

My favorite way to practice self-care is through exercise and getting outdoors. Pushing my own boundaries, achieving new records, and seeing myself improve is the best way to guarantee at least a few victories, even on the hard days.

Baking

While I indulge in several types of self-care regularly, the one that I enjoy the most is baking. The act of creating something from raw ingredients is rewarding. It allows me to decompress, hits several senses – from kneading dough or whisking ingredients, to the smell while baking, to the visual beauty and taste – it is all rewarding. Plus, it is pretty awesome that the end result is usually something delicious.

Baking also allows me to share the joy or the process and end result with my loved ones. And passing that love down to my children is especially rewarding.

Collecting

Collecting is a rewarding hobby that has no end. The process of searching for items and organizing them helps me stay focused and mindful, reducing stress in my daily life. I’ve also learned so much through researching and connecting with others who share my passion has made me feel more connected to a unique community.

Thrifting

For me, thrifting is more than just shopping – it’s an adventure. It’s a time to unplug, explore off-screen, and uncover unique treasures that hold their own stories. Thrifting allows me to embrace creativity and make mindful choices that resist consumerism while being kinder to the environment. It’s incredibly fulfilling to discover pieces that feel like hidden gems and to know I’m contributing to sustainability in my own way. If you haven’t tried thrifting, give it a go – you might be surprised by what you find!

Painting

For me, self-care often begins with a blank canvas and a palette of paints. Painting offers a welcome escape from the day’s noise, allowing me to channel my creativity in a different way. The process is as rewarding as the result—the tactile rhythm of brushstrokes and the joy of watching a piece take shape, layer by layer.

When I paint, time seems to stand still. It’s a space where I can relax, explore, and let inspiration flow freely. Painting brings balance to life’s demands, offering a serene and fulfilling outlet for expression.

Watching Movies

One of my favorite ways to practice self-care is by watching movies. There’s something truly relaxing about getting lost in a good film, whether it’s a new release or an old favorite. It’s my time to disconnect and immerse myself in different worlds, stories, and characters.

Movies have a way of sparking emotions and fresh perspectives. They offer a moment to reflect, laugh, or simply enjoy the journey. And when I share this experience with friends or family, it becomes even more rewarding – creating memories and connections that last beyond the credits.

Skiing

Skiing is a form of self-care that engages both the body and the mind. The physical activity boosts endorphins, while the serene mountain environment provides a calming escape from daily stresses.

At Arapahoe Basin, my favorite mountain, the breathtaking scenery amplifies this sense of rejuvenation. There’s nothing like carving through fresh snow, surrounded by towering peaks, to remind us to slow down and savor the moment.
